CLASSIC RECORDS WHO – A QUICK ONE
The second effort by the Who recorded in 1967 and transferred by Chris
Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original mono master tapes
provided by the Who on Classic’s own pure mono cutting system featuring a
mono tape head, mono tube electronics, mono tube cutting amp and pure mono
cutter head. To say that we went over the top to bring you the best versions
of Boris the Spider, Heatwave, and Cobwebs & Strange among others would be
an understatement. On 150 gram high quality vinyl. 25.55

CLASSIC RECORDS WHO – DIRECT HITS (200 GR)
Originally released in 1968 by fledgling UK indie label Track Records for
the European market only, this compilation of five single sides plus various
album cuts became an instant have on both sides of the Atlantic. Utilizing
the original monaural mixes throughout, we’ve recreated one of the most
sought after collector’ items in classic rock. Rare mono masters of hits
such as “I Can See For Miles”, “Substitute”, “Happy Jack”, “I’m A Boy” and
“Pictures of Lily” never sounded so good. Mastered at Bernie Grundman
Mastering in Hollywood by Chris Bellman and cut from the original full track
mono takes on Classic’s ALL TUBE MONO cutting system – no mono cut on a
stereo cutting system here! Pressed on Classic’s proprietary 200g Super
Vinyl profile this reissue puts you closer to the master tape than any other
LP. 35.85

CLASSIC RECORDS WHO – MY GENERATION (150 GR)
This is one of the seminal albums of the 60’s along with the White Album and
Let it Bleed. Originally mixed to Mono and a few tunes half heartedly to
stereo, this record contains the title track “My Generation” which is as
accurate today as it was 40 years ago. Additional tunes include “The Kids
Are Alright”, “I’m a Man”, “It’s Not True”, and “The Ox” among others. To
mount this important reissue, we reassembled the original MONO master takes
of each tune onto a master reel and had Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman
Mastering cut directly from that reel through our all tube MONO cutting
system. That’s right, this is not mono cut on a stereo head with the
resulting crosstalk (read added ambient information) – it is the real deal
just like it was cut in 1965 from the Shel Talmy (producer) original (not
copies) MONO master tapes. Artwork and labels are meticulously recreated
from a Mint original copy of the impossibly rare UK Brunswick LP. 25.55

CLASSIC RECORDS WHO – WHO’S NEXT (1LP)
At the beginning of the 70s, the impact of Tommy weighed heavily on Pete
Townshend’s shoulders. How on earth would he and the Who top such a
successful and important album? The guitarist-songwriter felt he had to take
his music and its conceptual strains one step further. He began writing a
futuristic fable that would transcend itself beyond the usual conventions of
modern music. Intended to be a film, a play, a concert, a mega multimedia
and cerebral experience – Townshend called his new project Lifehouse. And
although Lifehouse would stay frozen on the blocks for another 30 years, its
seeds sprouted the Who’s most cohesive and consistent effort, Who’s Next.
How Townshend’s ambitious follow-up ended up as Who’s Next isn’t easy to
discern. After several false starts and a break with Who manager/mentor, Kit
Lambert, the record was eventually rescued and shaped by producer/engineer,
Glyn Johns. Much of Townshend’s vision was contained within his extensive
demos — bits and pieces of a loosely constructed storyline set against
experimental melodies and basic backbeats. The album’s opening track, “Baba
O’Riley,” was originally an elongated cycle of synthesizer loops. What it
became was an anthem, highlighted by a tumultuous build, Dave Arbus’
rambling violin and Roger Daltrey’s acclamation of a “Teenage Wasteland.”
The thunder is sustained by the contagious “Bargain” – now, like so much of
the Who’s music, a commercial jingle. “Love Ain’t For Keeping” chugs away
against a fierce acoustic rhythm while John Entwistle’s sole contribution of
“My Wife” remains one of his most electrifying songs. “This Song Is Over”
features Nicky Hopkins’ incomparable piano work and ends with a chorus
pulled from “Pure And Easy,” the central number of Lifehouse that failed to
make the final cut, but would resurface three years later on the Odds And
Sods compilation. The theme is maintained on “Getting In Tune,” reintroduced
during the Who’s most recent tour, and “Going Mobile,” a track with
Townshend on lead vocals that recounts a couple of Lifehouse’s characters
cruising the streets in a Cadillac. It’s the album’s two singles that set up
the grand finale. “Behind Blue Eyes” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are
adrenaline-filled powder kegs that capture the Who in their most primal
state. Keith Moon’s drumming is as wild as ever, yet enduringly steady.
Entwistle’s sturdy bass and Townshend’s barking guitar rise and shift as
Daltrey’s signature scream radiates with emotion and authority during the
climax. This is arguably one of the Who’s greatest triumphs ever put on
record. And indisputably one of the most definitive moments in all of rock
and roll. – Review by Shawn Perry Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie
Grundman mastering from the original two track 1/4″ analog master tapes, cut
on the Classic “All Tube” cutting system, and pressed on Classic’s
proprietary 150 gram vinyl. 25.55

RPM VARIOUS – AN APPLE A DAY – MORE POP PSYCH…
…sounds from the Apple era 1968 – 1970). The long awaited sequel to ’94
Baker Street’, the first RPM Apple popsike compilation, compiled with the
assistance of the author of the History Of The Beatles Apple Organization
Book himself. Half the Apple Music Publishing Company’s recordings were
never issued, because as we know the company didn’t last particularly long:
here, many of those songs are given their first official airing. Highlights
include four more previously unissued Iveys tracks, the first recordings of
Gallagher And Lyle, and the rare-as-hens-teeth recordings of the cult band
Bachdenkel, among obscurities from the original Jigsaw, Lace, Majority
(later known as Majority One) , Mortimer and Tramp. Sleevenotes are a
lovingly documented essay by Stefan Grenados, an expert if ever there was
one. Ideal for popsike collectors or just anyone who loves good music.

FOURTH DIMENSION CIRCLE – ARKADES
Arkades catches a session Finnish group, Circle, recorded exclusively for
WFMU during their US tour, on 19/9/05. Comprising two lengthy pieces taking
up a side each, ‘The Greatest Kingdom’ and ‘The Ghost of the Highway’, it
focuses on their often spacey improv. underpinning and applies new meaning
to a vision which strides powerfully over the line dividing apocalyptic
dread from a semblance of hope. Agonised wailing, screams and torrents of
molten sound dance ghostly shapes over psychedelic keyboard patterns,
distant clattering, moonlit guitars and a rhythm section so carefully
tempered that it’s impossible not to feel the chemistry at work. Coupled to
a fantastic sleeve which illustrates a homage to spaghetti western films and
includes fitting notes by WFMU’s Program Director, Brian Turner, Arkades
proves what these New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metallers are capable of when
they leave most of the rock at the door. File somewhere near Acid Mothers
Temple after having been given the kinda makeover only the Scandinavians
have the formula for. Indeed, this is sweet shit. 17.65

JAZZMAN VARIOUS – THE WORLD’S RAREST FUNK 45’S
16 Heavyweight super-tough deep funk ultra-rarities – uncovered at last!
Will Quantic is known around the world for his blistering stage performances
with his band the Quantic Soul Orchestra. His ear for a good tune, and his
feel for a good rhythm didnt come from nowhere – you see Quantic has been
collecting rare funk 45s for years, and in that time he has absorbed every
drum kick, every horn line and every guitar lick into his very soul. It’s a
shame that the original 45s are so rare, with only a few hundred being
pressed in many cases, but it is possible that with such rarity comes
excellence, distinction and quality. We sincerely hope that by drawing
attention to not only the music, but the stories behind the music and the
performers themselves, we will inspire more people in the world to create
and perform music of the calibre that Quantic does today. Listen, learn and
enjoy! Tracklisting: 1. Larry Ellis – Funky Thing 2. The Soul Lifters

ROCK & ROLL INC KAISER GEORGE & THE HI-RISERS – TRANSATLANTIC DYNAMITE!
“The KAISERS, from Scotland, and responsible for many fantastic full lengths
during the 90s, are the best beat band EVER, second only to those The
Rutles! On the other hand, The HI-RISERS from Rochester NY are one of the
best rock&roll bands in the USA today! Put them together and this is what
you get… TRANSATLANTIC DYNAMITE! What happens when you mix British
Invasion beat pop with real Stateside rock ‘n’ roll? Don’t try it at home
folks, because Rock&Roll Inc. have already conducted the experiment for you
in the (relative) safety of the recording studio and the result is imprinted
on this disc. But be sure to handle with caution for it truly is
“Transatlantic Dynamite!”. Scotland’s Kaiser George (from unbeatable and
legendary The Kaisers) and Rochester NY’s rock&roll wonders The Hi-Risers
had a “jolly good time” and a “blast” during the recording of these fourteen
brand new originals. The janitor at Rochester’s famed Saxon Recording Studio
was heard to remark that it was “as if John Lennon had joined forces with
Buddy Holly’s Crickets”. True? You be the judge, dear listener! One thing’s
for sure, Kaiser George and The Hi-Risers are an explosive combination when
it comes to unbridled pop ‘n’ roll performed with irressistably carefree
abandon. Pure… TRANSATLANTIC DYNAMITE!” 15.35
