Two new releases through Discus are now available from www.discus-music.co.uk
Discus 34CD Weavels – at Nether Edge
Chris Cundy – bass clarinet
Alex Ward – guitar
Mick Beck – bassoon, whistles
Another chapter in Beck’s gradual documentation of his various live ensembles, capturing three trio improvisations and three solo tracks all recorded on libe dates in the UK during 2008.
And, by way of complete contrast, I have a very small number of copies of
Zond 001CD – Combat Astronomy – Dreams no longer hesitate
A second slice of jazz prog sludge heaviness from the amazing bass and drums of James Huggett with horn section and arrangements by Martin Archer (also featuring Mick Beck and Mike Ward), but with the whole lot moving up to a new level of compositional sophistication with the addition of fabulous muiti tracked vocals from Elaine di Falco. Think Magma meets Godflesh meets free jazz. This for me is one of the best projects I’ve ever been involved with. I can supply UK customers, but ex UK customers should buy direct from Zond – link is on the Discus site.
Also don’t forget our other 2 releases from this year – Discus 32CD is therminist Beatrix Ward-Fernandez remarkable trio bringing a fresh slant to the “classic” brass, percussion and electronics sound, plus, picking up the usual slew of great reviews, is Martin Archer’s sprawling double CD of rock / improv / free jazz In Stereo Gravity featuring Julie Tippetts and Chris Cutler amongst others.
And what better Christmas present than a copy of the truly unique Randomworld 1, the CD where every copy is different?
And finally, don’t forget our sister label Kelvin has 3 x 12″ releases on vinyl of dubstep / industrial / warped soul which are in a whole different area again. You can here Mp3s of these at www.discus-music.co.uk/kelvin.htm
Never let it be said we don’t try to keep things fresh!
