The metallic decoration, the hypnotic loops carpet over which very short tracks carry on in a tight space, or the ceaseless waltz of instruments going from hand to hand are as many reasons for your eyes and ears to stick to what’s happening on stage. A minimal and caustic drumbeat alternates with the calabash ; stangely melodic moments slip between two powerfully electric moments during which two twisted basses and some hellbound machines try to get in the way of a female vocal forcing its way through.
This band shows such a pleasure in playing its music amidst visual chaos that, little by little, you give yourself up to their loony story with a blissful smile that is responsible for this moronic expression on your face : glad to be surprised, glad to be given a rough ride.
Radically fresh, mighty, and generous, this hybrid and undissociable human pack can’t be classified.

– 2 steady stepladders (within ceiling reach)
– SOUNDCHECK 2h minimum including :
backline installation + backdrop installed before the soundcheck (necessary to point the lights)
+ positioning of the spotlights accessible from the stage.
*BACKDROP : if other band is playing before DN, the backdrop will be taken down after the soundcheck
and reinstalled right before the gig in a wink (10mn max to clear the stage after gig)

VALINA (AUSTRIA) A 3 anni di distanza dalla pubblicazione del debut-album ‘Into Arsenal Of Codes’, dopo l’autoproduzione del 7″ ‘Poor & Obscure’ (1996) e due tour europei e uno americano, i Valina, terzetto austriaco formatosi a Linz nel ’95, hanno attraversato l’oceano per sovlgere un mini-tour nell’ area di hicago e soprattutto per registrare, sotto la regia di Steve Albini, i pezzi del nuovo album intitolato ‘Vagabond’, uscito nel Dicembre del 2002. Negli ultimi quattro anni la creatività e lo stile del gruppo sono stati influenzati da un tocco di malinconia, bellezza piangente e desideri mai rivelati. Come il gruppo dice di se stesso: ‘i Valina sono quello che loro non potranno mai avere’. Il risultato finale è dunque un genere di rock che si espande in tutte le direzioni, partendo da uno spirito che potrebbe dirsi tipico dell’ hardcore e sfociando in territori musicali caratteristici di band come Shellac, Slint e tutta ‘la famiglia’ Touch & Go. CHEVREUIL (FRANCIA) [crazy post rock guitar + drums duet tra don caballero e storm and stress, prodotti da Steve Albini] CHEVREUL, attivi dal 1998 sono un duo chitarra e batteria, proveninente da Nantes, Francia. Chiaramente influenzati dall’ ultimo album degli Storm And Stress poropongono pezzi strumentali corredati da una chitarra su 4 amplificatori. a differenza principale rispetto alle fonti d’inspirazione sta nello stile più rock’n’roll del batterista che fa sentire in modo marcato la presenza del proprio strumento, ricordando il suono degli Shellac. Le percussioni molto ‘fuori’, con un suono pieno e pesante, vengono perfettamente abbinate alla chitarra. Per avere un’ idea più chiara dello stile degli Chevreul, immaginate un concerto di un gruppo ibrido formato da Shellac e Storm and Stress, con un tocco di Don Cabballero e le potenza degli AC/DC. Dopo il loro primo album Ghetto Blaster masterizzato da Fabrice Loreau (Yann Tiersen, Prohibition), hanno realizzato un nuovo album registrato da Steve Albini. La data di uscita dell’album in Francia è stata fissata per Marzo 2003. Moltissimi i responsi positivi già ricevuti da stampa e pubblico. Ascoltando la band dal vivo si ha l’ opportunità di notare che le caratteristiche ed il valore del gruppo non vengono affatto penalizzati, e che, anzi, tutte le loro qualità scintillano enfatizzate dal palco. LIQUID LAUGHTER LOUNG QUARTET (GERMANIA) (David Lynch like sounds with rockabilly, blues) “The Liquid Laughter Lounge Quartet plays cocktail music, a bitter-sweet liquid concoction that sticks in your throat leaving an aftertaste that is somewhere between pretty and pretty ugly. These four gentlemen of Freiburg borrow, alienate and counterfeit country and western, Rockabilly, an immense blues rendered with austere arrangements and an emotive and often hysterical voice. Anyone who finds themselves thinking about David Lynch films has hit the nail squarely on the head. With upright bass, drums. guitar a voice and a suitcase stuffed with sounds, Liquid Laughter Lounge Quartet are just as much a part of the furniture as the dilapidated sofa in the corner at The Heartbreak Hotel. And, the music matches the decor: pretty but also quick to unsettle and in places somewhat divergent and diffused, its contours washed smooth in deep swathes of red and blue. Ghosts whisper to rockabilly skeletons; this sotto voce country and western accompanied by a besotted Brian Ferryesque refrain. The far-flung and two-left-footed tango receives a jolt and a wry blues shuffle is danced until the glasses become stuck to the tabletops. The ice has long melted and the drink now tastes more bitter than sweet- just like the memories. Lyrics about angels, drugs, strange neighbours, forgetting and disappearance are morbid yet tender.
