Nuove Uscite e Concerti. In English…
Howdy and welcome to our July NEWS FROM THE CRYPT!
Had a great time at the PRMITIVE Festival in Rotterdam and it was fun to see
Maestro Tim again. Right now we enjoy the finally summer-like weather and
prepared quiet a list of new stuff.
But first off a WARNING regarding the DAMN FUCKING MONEY STEALING GERMAN
POST!! Please don’t send cash anymore – some ASSHOLE at the POST steals
letters with money inside. We had it happened two times in the last weeks
and 4 times this year so far. It happened before once in a while, but now it
happens on a almost regular basis and that FUCKER even stole it from a
registered letter and closed it again. Please pay with Visa- or Mastercard
or do a bank transfer with IBAN and BIC code (at least within Europe where
it costs the same as a transfer within your own Country) or do a Postal
Money Order. If you can’t do anything like that, only send your cash in a
empty CD tray or something like that, so that Mr. ‘SOON TO BE DEAD WHEN I
KNOW WHO HE IS’ ASSHOLE can’t figure that there’s more money to steal.
Ok, thats it for the bad news, now to the more fun part – here’s what we got
for ya:
LP: BUTTSHAKERS VOLUME 1 (Mr. Luckee) 11,25 Euro

sleeve and solid set of 60s dance movers! BILLY CLARK & THE MASKMAN Soul

series is from. Don’t have it yet, but should arrive any day.
CD: OL’ VIRGINIA SOUL PART 1 – JUMP UP & DOWN (Arcania Int’l) 15.30 Euro
27 cuts of Virginia 60s soul, ranging from sloppy lunacy to smooth 1968
groovers. The OPENING cut: “Jump Up & Down, Parts 1 & 2” will
KILL you, it’s so insane! Also great: Sebastian & The Houserockers “Nobody
Can Do The Dog”, Terry Sinclair “Clown Suit”, Bee Gee Stans
“Front Page Love”, Gene & The Team Beats “I’ll Carry On”, Ida Sands “Rescue
Me”, Dream team “I’m Not Satisfied”.
LP: BLACK LIPS “WE DID NOT KNOW THE FOREST SPIRIT MADE THE FLOWERS GROW”
(Bomp) 11,00 Euro.
Kicks off with the fantastic wild driven garage punker M.I.A. but then can’t
reach the high standard of the fantastic debut. They get a bit lost in their
noisy sound and can’t bring their high potential to the point. “Stranger” is
great again and the rest is inbetween good/solid and (unfortunately) hard to
listen to. M.I.A./ Time Of The Scab/ Dawn Of The Age Of Tomorrow/ Nothing At
All/ Stranger/ Juvenile/ Notown Blues/ Ghetto Cross/ Jumpin Around/ Super
X-13. Comes in blue colored vinyl.

SOME NEWS FROM DAMGED GOODS (finally received my order after various
communication problems, so we also have some Headcoats etc. stuff on Damaged
Goods back in stock….)
LP: THE POP RIVETS: “Greatest Hits” (Damaged Goods) 11,50 Euro
Here’s the Damaged Goods Info – what more can you say..: The Pop Rivets (AKA
TV 21) played their first show in 1977 at Detling Village Hall, Kent. Famous
for their renditions of “Stingray” and “Hippy Hippy Shake”, The Pop Rivets
recorded the first truly independent punk LP in 1978/9, pipping Swell Maps
to the post (who’s LP was actually funded by Rough Trade). The Pop Rivets,
on the other hand, borrowed £300 from AKA, a friend, who had just received a
year’s Social Security back pay. AKA was a type of fan who hated Childish
and dismissed the Pop Rivets as a bunch of art school wafters. The mystified
Pop Rivets took the money anyway and set about recording the “Greatest Hits”
LP in the front room of a bungalow in Herne Bay. (They had to stop recording
for the engineers mother to watch the 6 o’clock news). The resulting LP was
described in the NME as “The youngsters as the future of rock ‘n’ roll” and
then nothing happened.

New 60s Punk & Beat from Break-A-Way Records and and friends. Reviews taken
from Break-A-Way infos:
LP: FIFTH ORDER “Bonfire – The Return Of The Fifth Order” (Break-A-Way
Records) 13,00 Euro: Their 1966 garage classic Goin’ Too Far b/w Walkin’
Away was a tremendous regional success, at the time becoming the biggest
selling seven-incher from Columbus, Ohio. Their second local hit, A Thousand
Devils (Are Chasin´ Me) b/w Today I Got A Letter, was picked up by Laurie
for national release. These two records have long been recognized as
sterling examples of Ohio’s vibrant mid-60s garage rock scene. Break-A-Way
now presents the first ever collection by this famous Ohio 60´s teenband
incl their two 45´s, an incredible great third single release collectors
were not aware of and a cache of unreleased recordings. The ten track vinyl
LP release incl. the band´s six single sides plus four unreleased studio
recordings of exceptional quality. You can read the band´s complete history
as told by former members Jim Hilditch and Billy Carroll on a detailed
glossy insert and watch loads of cool pics .
10″: THE TRENCHMEN meet THE LOST SOULS (Break-A-Way Records): 9,00 Euro
Following the Embermen Five release, Break-A-Way presents two more
outstanding North Dakota ’60s bands: The Trenchmen from Minot and
Dickinson’s Lost Souls. The Trenchmen put out only one excellent garage 45,
Travel With Me b/w Chains On My Heart in 1967. The Lost Souls managed to
double that output with the punky It´s Not Fair b/w Enchanted Sea, and their
second platter Artificial Rose b/w Sad Little Girl, which became a
tremendous local success and got picked up by Liberty Records for national
release. The Trenchmen and the Lost Souls finally meet again on this latest
release from Break-A-Way Records. Comes with detailed insert, complete
history and rare pics.
10″: THE PSYCHOTIC REACTION “Masters Of Trash” (Break-A-Way Records) : 9,00 Euro
The 10″ comes with original cover art and 2 page insert incl band history
written by bandleader Martin Ernst. A reissue of one of the rarest german
´60s releases featuring a Sonics styled killer title track. Comes with
detailed insert, complete history and rare pics. “This record is not only
rare, it´s also a piece of mercyless trashpunk” (H.J. Klitsch – author of
“Shakin All Over” Book).
THE RINGERS “Let Them Be Known” (Break-A-Way Records) 13,50 Euro
Only 1 copy left…: The Ringers were more than just another typical ’60s
L.A. garage band among the myriad in that city to be infected with
Beatlemania. The fact that they have remained unknown to even some of the
most ardent devotees of mid-’60s rock is an injustice that is at last being
corrected all these decades down the track. The Ringers’ originally released
output consisted of just three 45s that were issued between the years of
1964 and 1966, and a Peru-only LP in 1970. The LP presents the band’s most
significant beat´n`garage recordings, incl. four singles sides from the
mid-’60s and six previously unreleased recordings from the same period.
“Snake Pit” and the superb Them/Seeds hybrid “Ask Me No Questions” are
prime mid 60´s US Garage Punk that would´ve been comfartably at home on
“Nuggets” (Nick Riviera – Record Collector 04/02)
10″: THE HEARD Meet THE ONLY ONES (Break-A-Way Records): 9,00 Euro:
Cassic Texas 60´s garagepunk. Two rare 45´s on one platter in great coloured
cover with
detailed 4 page insert w/complete history and unseen pics incl. The Heard
killer cover of “You´re Gonna Miss Me” and their classic original “Exit 9”
coupled with The Only Ones major protest tune “Another Place” and their
organ based garager “Can ´t Trust A Woman”. Two garage bands from Longview,
Texas. The Heard are already well known for their 1967 cover of the 13th
Floor Elevator´s “You´re Gonna Miss Me” b/w “Exit 9”. The sole 45 by the
Only Ones is a real killer discovery not even mentioned in the Fuzz Acid &
Flowers book. Look forward to their major protest tune “Another Place” b/w
“Can´t Trust A Woman”, a cool organ based garager with classic 1966
girl-put-down-lyrics.

10″: THE VAMPIRES – A Shot Of Rhythm´n´Soul (Break-A-Way Records) 9,00 Euro.
4 prev. unreleased 1967 recordings from the master tapes by german 60´s
band, incl a full speed version of Otis Redding´s “Dock Of The Bay”, the
powerful & magnificent soul ballad “I Can Go Down”, a group original titled
“Your Time Has Come” and a soulful cover of “A Shot of RnB”.
“I Can Go Down” is a mid-paced blues-soul ballad with a strong rasping
vocal reminiscent of Graham Bond or the Alan Bown Set. The gem though, is
“Youre Time Has Gone”, a great garage mover with good hooks and a blazing
horn chart. Overall, these four previously unreleased numbers recorded in
Madrid´s CIMA studios in 1967, adopt a low-down gutsy blues-soul approach,
much closer to Stax than the uptown pop sophistication of Motown. Paul
Martin review for “Shindig E-Zine Group
