We are pleased to announce Forma’s international, cross–artform productions for July – September.
Highlights include two major new projects in the UK this season: a public realm project from renowned performance artists Lone Twin; and a large–scale installation by Lynette Wallworth for her London debut, which opens this weekend at BFI Southbank Gallery.
Our international programme includes world premieres of two new Ryoji Ikeda commissions in France plus presentations of Forma projects in Belgium, The Netherlands, Australia and Singapore.

LONE TWIN – TOWN CRYING

Performance art group Lone Twin collaborate with an award–winning town crier to create a unique series of proclamations that tell stories about places, events and communities back to the people of North East England. Personal, anecdotal and often humorous, these commentaries promise to make us all think about the aspirations we have for our own lives.
Town Crying is a Vital Signs project, presented as part of Dott 07 (Designs of the Time 2007), a year of community projects and events taking place across North East England that explore how design can make a positive difference to our daily lives.

LYNETTE WALLWORTH – HOLD: VESSEL 2, 2007

‘One holds the image and is held by it; one leaves and the vision
is released.’ – Lynette Wallworth
For this new installation, Wallworth updates her celebrated piece, Hold: Vessel 1, 2001, with the addition of two newly commissioned video projections. In creating this new material, Wallworth collaborated with specialist cinematographers to produce intricate details of underwater marine life, recording how these environments have changed in the six years since the first version of Hold.

RYOJI IKEDA – DATAPHONICS + DATA.TRON

Ryoji Ikeda opens the Netherlands premiere of his latest exhibition, data.tron [prototype], with a performance of dataphonics. Presented as a multi–channel concert for a blacked–out space, Ikeda’s composition for dataphonics creates a unique and highly physical sound field.
data.tron is an immersive audiovisual installation that combines mathematics and raw data with breathtaking technical precision.
dataphonics is produced by Forma

This elegant and simple video installation is based on imagery filmed by the artist in Iran in 2004. Damavand Mountain features images of a woman in a chador, a lone poppy flower, and clouds floating over a mountain peak. These elements evoke a sense of resilient inter–connectedness as they adapt to and endure invisible forces surrounding them.

“…at times C4I aspires not towards a representation of nature, but to be nature.” – Realtime Arts, 2006
C4I is both a concert and a film that uses data as its material and theme, highlighting the ways in which data shapes our understanding of the world. In this highly atmospheric work, the soundtrack synchronises perfectly with the graphical and video images to create a piece of undeniable power and beauty.
In datamatics, Ikeda presents a dazzling progression of imagery derived from pure data. He combines dynamic computer–generated visuals with a hypnotic and densely layered soundtrack to produce immense and apparently boundless audiovisual spaces.
Both audiovisual concerts are part of the Ikeda’s datamatics series and show the artist at the height of his powers, building on his own unique and unmistakable artistic language.

data.tron [prototype], the new audiovisual installation by the renowned electronic composer/visual artist, presents with mathematical precision a vast sea of data–derived imagery. Both the scale and intensity of data.tron invite total immersion in this work.
The sculptural wall installation, data.film nº1-a, creates a horizontal band of bright light that bisects the gallery wall. On closer inspection, the work reveals microscopic data codes printed on 35mm film.
