RYOJI IKEDA – DATAMATICS [VER.2.0]

24 Nov  Life, St.Nazaire, FR
6 Dec Petazzie –Live interdisciplinary arts–
Effenaar, Eindhoven, NL

“Ikeda makes speed manifest here, including the various speeds and slownesses that extend the retinal limit in a way that would be previously regarded as outside of phenomenological thought.”
– Joseph Nechvatal on datamatics [ver.2.0]

Following a sold out premiere of this work at Centre Pompidou last month, Ryoji Ikeda tours the new version of his datamatics concert.

For datamatics [ver.2.0], Ikeda has added a newly commissioned 20-minute sequence that further develops and deconstructs the earlier version of this piece. Stunning beautiful, this new sequence continues to challenge the threshold of our perceptions.

FENNESZ/CHARLES ATLAS

1 Dec  Budascoop, Kortrijk, BE

This project brings together celebrated musician/electronic composer Christian Fennesz and award–winning filmmaker and video artist Charles Atlas in a virtuoso performance that continues to evolve with each presentation.

While Fennesz layers complex and mysteriously iridescent sound textures with guitar and laptop, Atlas innovates with live video mixing of sampled film footage, prepared clips and improvised collage.

RYOJI IKEDA – C4I + DATAMATICS [VER.1.0]

30 Nov Le Petit Faucheux, Tours, FR

The audiovisual performances C4I and datamatics [ver.1.0] are part of Ikeda’s datamatics series, an art project that explores the potential to perceive the invisible multi–substance of data that permeates our world.

The highly atmospheric C4I is both a concert and a film. Poetic and political, the work subtly and hypnotically suggests a convergence of the real and the virtual, and the use of information to discover and control these worlds.

In datamatics, Ikeda projects dynamic, computer–generated imagery with a powerful and hypnotic soundtrack. In this breathtakingly accomplished work, the artist transforms through multiple dimensions patterns derived from hard drive errors and software code.

Produced by Forma
C4I is commissioned by Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM)
datamatics is co–commissioned by AV Festival 06 and ZeroOne San Jose: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge and ISEA 2006 Symposium and supported by YCAM and Recombinant Media Labs

LONE TWIN – TOWN CRYING

Available now

In summer 2007, Lone Twin travelled across North East England to ask people about their lives and how they would like to live. The stories, anecdotes and commentaries they collected were then performed as a series of public proclamations by a town crier, in locations ranging from shopping centres and night spots to weekend markets and historic sites.

This book documents these events and includes the script performed at each location, colour photographs of the cries and an interview with the artists.
