MCIAA are proud to present their debut release on ATAVISTIC WORLDWIDE,
a CD+DVD set featuring the Opalio brothers’ studio collaboration with
legendary Italy’s electronic pioneer ENORE ZAFFIRI, and presenting for
the first time two incredible films: ‘TRASPARENZE’ (the so-called
‘video painting’ by Mr.Zaffiri) and ‘LIGHT_EARTH_BLUE_SILVER’ (dual
film by Roberto Opalio, with soundtrack by MCIAA). The latter will be
presented at the SLOOWJOB festival at NETWERK Center for Contemporary
Art in Aalst (B) later this month, event curated by Bart De Paepe of
Sloowtape and My Favourite Magazine.

“Clandestine auteurs the Opalio Brothers (AKA My Cat Is An Alien) have
deftly sprinkled our solar system with their beautifully
fragile,arcane soundscape/ tracks via their own OPAX label.
Atavistic is most definitely thrilled to have the pleasure of
releasing ‘Through the magnifying glass of tomorrow’, a freshly-minted
collaboration with one of the pioneers of radical Italian electronic
music, ENORE ZAFFIRI.
Mr. Zaffiri, composer and founder of the legendary SMET (Studio di
Musica Elettronica di Torino) in 1964, is 80 years old and has been a
“reclused” artist for decades. After meeting Maurizio and Roberto, he
decided to set up a collaborative project with them. Their recordings
from the Western Alps of Bella Italia, ‘Through the magnifying glass
of tomorrow’, a CD+DVD release running over two hours, is the haunting
result from the gathering of these fellow musical cosmonauts.”

Light_Earth_Blue_Silver is a dual film by Roberto Opalio, shot in 8mm
cassette in January 2005 in a remote location of Italy’s western Alps.
A first version, with different editing, was screened in April 2005 at
The Sage Gateshead, Newcastle UK during a My Cat Is An Alien’s live
performance. A final editing was made in 2008, adding an original
soundtrack by My Cat Is An Alien.
For the film Roberto Opalio made a two-meters-tall alien figure in
iron wire, one of the main features inhabiting his own artistic
imaginary, and symbol of the transfiguration of the existential vision
of the last human being on Earth. The Alien is the character of
Light_Earth_Blue_Silver.
This film shows the Alien’s physical and existential voyage along a
mountain track, where snow, rocks, white birches and pinetrees mark
out its way to heaven. As all Opalio’s works, the film has different
levels of interpretation, one of which may recall Christ’s passion and
ascension, of course in a totally non-religious view.
